Shooting, Aurora Police Department Shooting Leaves One Dead; Interim Chief of Police Heather Morris Confirms Officer-Involved Shooting”

The Aurora Police Department reported a shooting incident on Saturday evening, resulting in one person being killed. The shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Clinton Street, as confirmed by Interim Chief of Police Heather Morris during a press conference. According to the Aurora PD, one male was taken to the hospital, and no officers were injured. The incident is currently under investigation, with the police urging anyone with information to come forward.

During the press conference, Interim Chief of Police Heather Morris provided details about the shooting. At approximately 7:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The suspect was identified as leaving the scene in a red Mustang, prompting a pursuit. However, officers lost track of the vehicle and disengaged. The red Mustang later returned to the scene, and officers observed the suspect with a gun. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect.

Aurora Fire Rescue was quick to respond, providing life-saving measures at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officers involved in the shooting have been with the department for four and five years, respectively. They have been placed on administrative leave.

Interim Chief of Police Heather Morris described the scene as “volatile” and “dramatic,” involving a suspect shooting at a victim and a subsequent pursuit. The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will work to notify the next of kin. The man initially shot in the leg had non-life-threatening injuries.

The 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene and will lead the investigation, supported by the APD’s Major Crimes Unit. An internal investigation will also be conducted. The incident marks a tragic event in the community, and the police department is working to provide updates as more information becomes available.

The shooting incident has raised concerns about officer-involved shootings and the use of force by law enforcement. The investigation will aim to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether the officers’ actions were justified.

The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by law enforcement officers in their duties to protect and serve the community.

As the investigation unfolds, the Aurora Police Department will work to provide transparency and updates to the public. The incident is a sobering reminder of the risks and consequences involved in officer-involved shootings, and the community will be watching closely as the investigation progresses.
