Travis Sentell Sims Obituary, Death – Fatal Shooting Outside Tropicana Bar & Lounge in Miami-Dade County Claims Life of 45-Year-Old Travis Sentell Sims
On Sunday morning, a shooting outside the Tropicana Bar & Lounge in northwestern Miami-Dade County resulted in the death of one man and injury to another, according to local police.
Authorities from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, situated near the intersection of the Gladeview and West Little River neighborhoods, to find 45-year-old Travis Sentell Sims deceased.
His body was covered with a yellow tarp. Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department, reported that officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 5:20 a.m. and discovered Sims near Northwest 79 Street and 10 Court.
Shortly after, another adult male was taken to Hialeah Hospital. Rodriguez noted that the injured man’s condition was stable when he was later transferred to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel.
Police shut down Northwest 79 Street in both directions as they investigated the incident. A witness, who claimed to be related to the victim, stated that the shooting followed an altercation at the bar.
As of now, Detective Rodriguez has not confirmed the identity of the victim or the motive behind the shooting. Earlier that morning, detectives were also investigating a separate fatal shooting at around 1 a.m. at Northwest Miami Court and 82 Street in West Little River, where the wounded individual later died at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
While details about the gunman in the Tropicana Bar & Lounge shooting remain unclear, a cousin of the deceased told Local 10 reporter Trent Kelly that the suspect confronted Sims outside the bar as he was leaving and fired up to ten shots at him.
Family members have confirmed that Sims leaves behind a teenage daughter. Police are seeking assistance from the public and encourage anyone with information about this or other related cases to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. The community is mourning the loss of Travis Sentell Sims, and support is being offered to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the suspect responsible for Sims’ death.
