Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen assaulted in Copenhagen, suspect in custody

Although the Prime Minister’s life is not in danger, she expressed being “shocked” by the incident.

Concerns have arisen in Denmark for Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who was attacked on the street in Copenhagen.

While visiting the market in Kultorvet Square, she was approached and punched by a man.

According to her political headquarters, the attacker was immediately apprehended and arrested. Although the Prime Minister’s life is not in danger, she expressed being “shocked” by the incident.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s office has not issued any further statements, and the police in the Danish capital have confirmed the incident but offered no additional comments.

Mette Frederiksen, 46, has led the Danish Social Democratic Party at the head of a centre-left coalition since June 2019.

The prime minister has campaigned alongside Christel Schaldemose, the leading candidate for the Social Democrats in the upcoming European elections on Sunday.

However, Christel Schaldemose clarified, as reported by Ritzau, that Frederiksen’s presence at Kultorvet was not related to her electoral campaign.
