Hope Wood, Peggy Moore Obituary- Two notable political figures from the Bay Area passed away on Friday night after the pickup truck they were traveling in collided with a car in rural San Diego County.
Hope Wood and her spouse Peggy Moore were among the victims, along with the 60-year-old man driving the Jeep pickup that crashed into a Chrysler sedan around 11:15 p.m.
The Jeep was traveling west on state Highway 76 near Horse Ranch Creek Road close to Fallbrook when it struck the eastbound sedan. Both drivers, as well as another passenger in the Jeep, lost their lives at the scene.
While only Wood, aged 48, was officially identified by the medical examiner, social media posts from friends and colleagues of the couple confirmed that they both perished in the tragic accident.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of our former President Peggy Moore and her spouse Hope Wood. Moore was a catalyst for change in Oakland and the East Bay,” one post stated.
Moore’s 25 years of political activism and community organizing were recognized for her efforts in advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and communities of color.
The couple met while working on President Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008 and later established Hope Action Change in 2019, a consultancy and coaching firm focused on organizational development.
“Peggy and Hope worked together to effect change, influence opinions, and contribute to a world where love does not restrict freedom,” remarked U.S. Congressional Rep. Barbara Lee. “Their impact on our community, city, state, and nation will be remembered for generations to come.”
