Ryan Dwayne Kephart death, obituary, 45, Victim of Fatal Shooting in East Bakersfield; Two Suspects Arrested and Charged
Ryan Dwayne Kephart, a 45-year-old resident of Bakersfield, California, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting that occurred on October 27, 2024, in east Bakersfield.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office reported that Kephart sustained gunshot wounds and was discovered at approximately 4:47 p.m. near the intersection of East Belle Terrace and Washington Street.
Although the exact time of the shooting remains unclear, the Bakersfield Police Department promptly launched an investigation into the incident. Their efforts led to the arrest of two suspects on October 31: 18-year-old Lane Burnet and a minor whose identity has not been disclosed.
Lane Burnet appeared in court for a felony arraignment hearing on November 4, 2024, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 29, 2025. However, the charges filed against the juvenile suspect have not been released yet.
The Bakersfield Police Department is still actively investigating the shooting and has not released any additional information about the case. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Kephart’s official cause and manner of death.
