Born on June 6, 1965, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Brian was the son of Bruce Albert North and Judy Nolan Nelson. From a young age, it was clear that Brian possessed qualities that would define his future: a compassionate heart, a sharp mind, and a tireless work ethic. Raised in the culturally rich and vibrant environment of New Orleans, Brian grew up with a deep sense of community and family. His childhood and education laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service, faith, and leadership.

He attended St. Andrew the Apostle School and Christian Brothers School, where he developed his love for learning, as well as a strong sense of morality that would guide him throughout his life. His commitment to education continued as he entered Jesuit High School, a school that would become a vital part of his life. As a student, Brian was not only academically focused but also deeply engaged in the life of the school. He formed lasting friendships and became well-known for his kindness, leadership, and service to others. Graduating with the Class of 1983, Brian went on to develop a deep, lifelong relationship with Jesuit High School, serving as Chairman of its Board of Directors at the time of his death.
Brian’s academic journey continued at Louisiana State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. His thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there—he later pursued an MBA from the University of New Orleans. His commitment to education was not limited to his own studies; it was something he would continually champion throughout his career and beyond, especially in his work with various local schools and educational foundations.

Brian’s professional life was nothing short of impressive. He dedicated his career to Fifth District Savings Bank, beginning his tenure as a teller and rising through the ranks to become the bank’s President and CEO in 2016. One of Brian’s favorite getaways was to Pass Christian, Mississippi, a place he considered his second home. There, he found peace and joy, whether fishing off the pier or simply enjoying the serenity of the Gulf Coast. His love for the outdoors and his commitment to family time were essential parts of who he was, and they provided him with a sense of balance amid his busy professional and civic life.

Above all, Brian was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a deep, loving partnership with his wife, Sueann Hanemann North, whom he married in 1989. Their 36-year marriage was a testament to the strength of their bond, built on mutual respect, love, and unwavering support for each other through life’s many challenges and triumphs.
Brian was also a proud father to Molly Bilich and William North, both of whom carry forward his legacy of service, integrity, and compassion. His grandchildren, Amalie Bilich, Wesley North, Luka Bilich, and the soon-to-arrive baby North, were the apples of his eye, and he delighted in spending time with them, offering them wisdom, love, and affection. His family was always his greatest treasure, and he poured his heart into being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Brian’s mother, Judy Nolan Nelson, and his siblings, Michael North (Terri) and Katherine North Costantini, were deeply important to him, and their close-knit relationship was a source of strength for him throughout his life. A Funeral Mass celebrating Brian’s life will be held at Jesuit High School’s Chapel of the North American Martyrs on Saturday, June 14, 2025. This service will provide an opportunity for those who loved him to come together, reflect on his life, share memories, and honor his enduring legacy. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 12:00 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Jesuit High School Foundation or Project ’83. These charitable contributions will help continue Brian’s legacy of service and commitment to education, ensuring that future generations benefit from the opportunities he worked so hard to provide.
