Glandina Dixon Obituary: 47-Year-Old Woman Brutally Killed with Hammer at Charlotte Gas Station
In a shocking incident that has left the community in disbelief, a woman was brutally killed inside a QuikTrip gas station in north Charlotte. The attack took place late on a Saturday night at the QuikTrip located on Trailer Drive, near North Graham Street and Interstate 85.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has confirmed that the victim, 47-year-old Glandina Dixon, was assaulted and killed with a hammer by 53-year-old Sam Roary. The sequence of events leading up to this horrifying crime began when Dixon entered the gas station.
Surveillance footage shows her walking into the store and heading towards the restroom. Moments later, Roary entered the store, closely following Dixon. The video then captures Roary returning to his truck, where he retrieved a hammer before heading back into the store.
He followed Dixon into the women’s restroom, where the tragic incident unfolded. According to police reports, CMPD officers received a 911 call around 11:15 p.m. on August 17 from a witness who had been inside one of the bathroom stalls during the attack.
The witness reported hearing a disturbing noise before exiting the stall, only to discover Dixon lying on the floor, bleeding from the back of her head. Blood covered the bathroom floor, and it was evident that Dixon had sustained severe injuries.
Paramedics arrived quickly, but Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene. The surveillance footage shows that Roary spent only about 40 seconds inside the restroom before exiting the store, getting back into his truck, and driving away.
The swiftness and brutality of the attack have left the community reeling. CMPD detectives later confirmed that Dixon and Roary knew each other, though the nature of their relationship and the motive behind the attack remain unclear.
The senseless violence has left Dixon’s family heartbroken and searching for answers. On the Tuesday following the incident, WCNC Charlotte reached out to Dixon’s family, but they declined to speak publicly, stating that they were not yet ready to discuss the tragedy.
The case has also unsettled residents and customers in the area. One customer, reflecting on the incident, expressed his fear and disbelief that such violence could occur in a public place like a gas station.
The CMPD acted quickly in the aftermath of the crime, apprehending Roary and charging him with murder. However, the investigation is still ongoing as detectives work to piece together the details of what led up to the fatal attack.
