Daniel Ryan Obituary, Man who burn down apartment was shot, killed by police

Daniel Ryan Obituary,

A man was shot and killed by a member of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in Belfast Monday.

Around 1:30 p.m. authorities got a call about a man who was threatening to burn his apartment on Cedar Street down if law enforcement did not respond.

Police say when they got there, the man, identified as 65-year-old Daniel Ryan of Belfast, continued making threats to burn down his apartment. When officers arrived, Ryan charged at them with a gas can that was on fire.

A sergeant with the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed him. That sergeant is now on administrative leave, which is standard practice.
