The man who was killed in a car accident involving a speeding and potentially impaired driver in Kansas City has been identified by law enforcement officials.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department released a statement on Friday, June 7, stating that the deceased driver has been identified as Troy Chatman Jr., aged 54.

According to the police, the incident occurred just before 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, when they received reports of a four-vehicle collision in the area of eastbound I-70 and Manchester Ave.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a gold Chevrolet Equinox was traveling at a high speed on eastbound I-70 when it collided with a black Toyota Camry, a black Ford Expedition driven by Chatman, and a black Ford F-150.

The impact of the collision caused Chatman’s SUV to slide and flip onto its top before rolling down an embankment. Chatman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and found on the shoulder of the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the speeding vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, while the other drivers and passengers involved in the accident escaped without injuries.

The Kansas City Police Department stated that the driver responsible for the accident is currently under investigation for suspected impairment. This tragic incident marks the 45th traffic fatality in Kansas City in 2024, compared to 32 at the same time last year.
