Authorities confirmed the identity of the man who tragically lost his life on the side of I-215 when he was outside of his vehicle. Another driver collided with the back of his car, causing it to hit him directly.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers were called to a severe accident on the southbound lanes of I-215 West at 3100 South in West Valley City at approximately 4:20 p.m. on June 7.
The individual behind the wheel of a Chevy Tahoe, known as 48-year-old Leonardo Abraham Angel Mejia, had parked on the left shoulder and was standing between the barrier and his vehicle.
A Nissan NV200 traveling in the opposite direction suddenly swerved out of its lane for reasons unknown and crashed into the back passenger side of the Tahoe, pushing it into Angel Mejia.
Troopers arrived at the scene, where Angel Mejia was tragically pronounced deceased. “The circumstances that led to the other vehicle leaving its lane are currently being investigated,” authorities stated on Saturday morning.
