Jahiem Gailes Death
The individual who was killed in Plaquemine on Tuesday was a member of the Louisiana National Guard. According to his mother, Meghan Gailes, he was not only a loving sibling but also deeply cared for his family and community.
Meghan Gailes expressed her deep love for her son, Jahiem Gailes, stating that he was truly everything to her. Tragically, he was shot outside their family home on Bourgoyne Street on Tuesday night.
Meghan Gailes vividly remembers speaking to her son just five minutes before the shots were fired and being present in his final moments. She rushed to him, pleading for him not to leave her. She knew she had lost him when she felt his lifeless body on the ground. In a heartbreaking moment, she held his hands and intertwined their fingers.
The family is still in a state of shock as Jahiem Gailes was the second oldest among seven siblings. Meghan Gailes recalls how he took on the role of a protector and guided his brothers and sisters. His caring nature extended beyond his family, as he served the community as a guardsman.
PV1 Gailes enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard in May 2019 and served with the 239th Military Police Company of the 61st Troop Command in Carville, Louisiana. He worked as a tactical power generation specialist, overseeing power generation equipment, internal combustion engines, and other machinery.
Before his untimely death, Jahiem Gailes received several awards for his service, including the National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Armed Forces Service Medal. Meghan Gailes fondly remembers her son’s giving heart and his love for others. She cherishes his accomplishments as a guardsman.
The weight of the loss is still heavy on her heart, and she tearfully expresses that she will never receive her baby’s phone calls again. Plaquemine Police Chief Stephen Engolio has identified Rashad Seales as a suspect in the case.
