Death: Kathy Shaw, Beloved Washington, PA Resident died unexpectedly

Kathleen Marie “Kathy” Shaw, who was 73 years old and lived in Washington, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Shadyside Hospital after a brief bout with sickness. On March 6, 1951, she was born in Windber, which is at the centre of Somerset County. Both of her parents, Frank and Anna Mae Wadsworth Giblock, passed away before she was born.

In 1969, Kathy graduated from Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, and received her diploma. The year 1972 saw her graduation from Clarion University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

Over the course of her career, Kathy was a teacher at St. Hilary Parochial School, where she taught language arts, and at Dubois Area School District, where she taught French. St. James Parish in Washington, District of Columbia was a place where she was actively involved in the life of the parish. She served as a lector, a member of the choir, an exceptional minister, and a volunteer in various ministries.

For many years, Kathy was the leader of the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s training programs, as well as its summer day camps, Thinking Days, and other activities.

Aside from that, she was a commander of the squad. Over the course of more than three decades, her lifelong friends in the Scouting community established the Green Angels team.

This group participated in the Relay For Life event every May, where they volunteered their time and raised donations for cancer research. It was via activities such as music, flower gardening, crocheting, and having luncheon dates with close friends that she discovered a great deal of fulfillment. It was her marriage and her twin daughters who were the focal point of her life and devotion. In Lilly, on June 8, 1974, she tied the knot with Don Shaw, who was a resident of Washington.

Her two children, Kelly Shaw and Kristen Shaw, who reside in Washington, as well as her brother, Thomas (Marcia) Giblock, who lives in Gillette, Wyoming, are still living. All of her nieces and nephews, including Shannon (Gretchen) Giblock, Gavin Giblock, Jamie (Tim) Deimling, Alyssa, Jacob, and Hailey Deimling, Matt (Jan) Giblock, and Nancy Shaw, are still alive. Her sister-in-law Debbie (Carl) Shaw and her brother-in-law James Shaw are also still alive.

The Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, located at 1290 Jefferson Avenue in Washington, will be hosting friends’ hours on Thursday, May 16, from four to eight o’clock in the evening. Departing prayers are scheduled to take place at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, May 17 an
