John Malley, Jessica Hay Obituary – Officials have reported that two individuals have lost their lives in a collision in Sacramento County, with alcohol suspected to be a contributing factor.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:17 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Highway 160 and Sherman Island Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a report regarding a head-on crash at this location.
The CHP later provided an update on Monday afternoon, clarifying the details of those involved in the accident. According to the CHP, a 26-year-old man from Antioch was driving a gray Nissan SUV southbound on Highway 160 at an unknown speed. Simultaneously, a silver Lexus SUV, with a 33-year-old driver, a 29-year-old passenger named Jessica Hay, and three children as passengers (aged 2 months, 10 years, and 5 years), was traveling northbound on Highway 160, just south of Sherman Island Road, also at an unknown speed.
For reasons that are currently unknown, the Nissan SUV veered into the northbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Lexus. Tragically, the driver of the Nissan, identified as John Malley by the Sacramento County Coroner, succumbed to his injuries. Jessica Hay, the passenger in the Lexus, also lost her life in the crash.
The driver of the Lexus sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital in the Bay Area, along with the 5-year-old girl and the 2-month-old. The 10-year-old child was taken to a hospital in Sacramento, according to the CHP.
Cynthia Padilla, Jessica Hay’s aunt, confirmed that Hay was the mother of the three children in the vehicle. The driver of the Lexus was Hay’s boyfriend and the father of the 2-month-old, as stated by Padilla. The family had been returning to Rio Vista from the Bay Area at the time of the accident.
Highway 160 was temporarily closed for approximately one hour while authorities conducted their investigation.
