Gerrone Avery Death: Family asserts that man killed outside Atlanta strip club was a victim of robbery.

Gerrone Avery Death

The family members of a man who was fatally shot outside the popular Atlanta strip club Magic City are searching for answers in the aftermath of his tragic death. Atlanta law enforcement reported that Gerrone Avery, aged 32, was discovered shot on Forsyth Street shortly before 4 a.m. on May 4.

His mother, Tara Avery, expressed her sorrow on Mother’s Day as she mourned the loss of her son, who drew his last breaths just steps away from Magic City. “It was a difficult time… knowing that he won’t be here anymore,” she shared. “I can’t bear the thought of my son lying on the ground… alone.”

Authorities from the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that a Spelman College police officer was connected to the incident, but did not disclose who fired the fatal shots. The grieving mother recounted that detectives informed her that surveillance footage indicated her son had been a victim of a robbery shortly before the shooting.

“That’s what they told me, ‘Your son is a victim,’” she recounted. “We want to understand his final moments. He was a kind-hearted person.” Jasmine Avery, his sister, expressed her desire for justice for her brother, stating, “I miss him… he was always there, no matter what.”

As of now, no charges have been pressed, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Inquiries were made to Spelman College officials regarding the officer’s employment status, but they declined to provide further comments.

Avery’s funeral is scheduled for the end of the month. Family and friends intend to launch an online fundraiser to assist with the expenses. While the police have not disclosed additional information about the robbery, they have assured that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
