48-year-old Gregory Hostetler killed after shooting at Five Star Auto Sales in Hervey City

25-year-old Tiimon Perry arrived at the business to reclaim the vehicle. A verbal dispute ensued regarding the towing fee, which escalated into a physical altercation.

The individual who lost his life in a shooting incident at a Hervey City business on Monday has been identified as Gregory W. Hostetler of Dalton City.

Hostetler, aged 48, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. Macon County Sheriff Jim Root stated that deputies were called to a shooting near Five Star Auto Sales on Monday afternoon.

Upon arrival, they discovered Hostetler and an 18-year-old gunshot victim, along with the suspect who also sustained injuries.

The additional victim and the suspect were transported to a hospital for medical care.

Hostetler and the victim, who jointly own and operate Five Star Auto Sales and Greg’s Towing and Recovery, had earlier towed a vehicle.

Later, a 25-year-old man identified as Tiimon Perry arrived at the business to reclaim the vehicle. A verbal dispute ensued regarding the towing fee, which escalated into a physical altercation.

During the altercation, Perry reportedly produced a handgun and shot Hostetler in the head, as stated by the sheriff. The other victim attempted to disarm Perry and was shot in the shoulder in the process.

After breaking free, he fired one round at Perry, hitting him in the testicular region.

Perry is currently detained at the hospital, and upon his recuperation, he will be transferred to Macon County Jail for formal procedures.

The victim received medical treatment for the gunshot injury and has since been discharged. Perry is initially charged with first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Additionally, he has outstanding warrants for vehicular invasion and is sought by Decatur Police for vehicle invasion and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Further charges are expected to follow. An autopsy on Hostetler will be conducted at the McLean County Coroner’s Morgue in Bloomington to advance the inquiry and establish the cause of death.

The investigation is being carried out by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
