Omari Braxton Obituary – The man who was killed in a shooting in Rock Island on Saturday afternoon has been identified by the Rock Island County coroner.
The victim, Omari Braxton, was 21 years old and a resident of Rock Island. Derrick B. Nephew Jr., a 29-year-old, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to Braxton’s death.
The shooting took place at around 4:45 p.m. inside the Maple Ridge Apartment complex on 5th Street. Braxton was found in the parking lot with life-threatening gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
On Saturday evening, Rock Island police obtained an arrest warrant for Nephew Jr., who was apprehended in Davenport at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Sunday.
He is currently being held at the Scott County Jail and will be extradited to Illinois. The incident is currently being investigated.
