Thomas J Gates Death: Illinoise Broadway Stage Manager died in tragic train accident

Illinoise Stage Manager, Thom Gates has passed away suddenly. He was confirmed dead on Tuesday, May 9, 2024. He died after being involved in a Subway accident, leaving many hearts scarred after learning of his sudden death. Without any doubt, he will always be missed by all those who had the privilege of meeting and working with him during the course of his life and career.

In Loving Memory of Thomas J Gates

On Wednesday, May 8, Thomas J. Gates, a Broadway stage manager who had worked for a long time, passed away after being struck by a train operated by New Jersey Transit. At 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, a train on the Morris and Essex Line struck and killed Gates, who was 51 years old and from South Orange. The incident occurred close to the South Orange Station.

Illinoise, the show on which Gates worked as the Production Stage Manager, has confirmed that he has unfortunately passed away. The musical that was nominated for a Tony Award and is currently being performed at the St. James Theatre had celebrated its current run on Broadway the night before, and as a result, it was canceled for performance on Wednesday.

Gates, who is well-liked in the theater world, began his career on Broadway in which he worked as an assistant stage manager on the production of Noises Off in the year 2001. Hairspray, Brooklyn, High Fidelity, Finian’s Rainbow, Newsies, Pippin, The Visit, and Waitress were some of the films that he worked on after that.

Gates was involved in the production of The Gardens of Anuncia at the Lincoln Center Theater in the previous year, in addition to the drama The Fears, which was performed off-Broadway. His husband, Rick Steiger, who is also a stage manager, is one of the people that survived George Gates.
