Richard Shawn Perez Obituary

The deceased individual shot and killed by officers during a gunfire exchange while serving a search warrant in Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood earlier this week has been identified as Richard Shawn Perez, aged 45. Family members have been informed of his passing.

On Monday, May 6, 2024, at approximately 9:05 a.m., law enforcement officers responded to an armed robbery report at a business located in the 11100 block of Northeast Halsey Street. Upon arrival, the suspects had already fled the scene.

Subsequently, investigators discovered that the suspects were located in a residence on SE 124th Ave. The Portland Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) arrived at the residence just after 5 p.m. to execute a search warrant for the suspects.

During the operation, Perez reportedly discharged a firearm at SERT members. In response, the officers returned fire, resulting in Perez’s death.

A handgun was found near Perez’s body. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.

– Kristian M. Nelson-Trout, 22, of Portland, was arrested for a parole violation.
