Baldwin Park Suicide; Man jump off Cloverleaf Drive bridge

Baldwin Park has been the location of an event that has prompted the authorities to respond. Reports indicate that a guy committed suicide by jumping off a bridge on Tuesday, May 6 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Cloverleaf Drive and the 605 Freeway were the locations where this incident took place in the city of Baldwin Park. The victim’s identity was not released.

On other news, the family of a 38-year-old man who committed suicide in his detention cell has filed a lawsuit against Sheriff Alex Villanueva and Los Angeles County, alleging that jail personnel failed to provide him with adequate care prior to his passing.

As per the lawsuit filed, Baldwin Park resident Mark Carrillo was incarcerated at Men’s Central Jail on January 23, the day of his death, due to a probation violation. Instead of being transferred to the Twin Towers Correctional Facilities, which has medical facilities to treat inmates with mental health issues, Carrillo should have been transferred to the former.

Tuesday’s complaint on behalf of Carrillo’s widow and their five children alleges that he had a prior psychiatric institutionalization and incarceration at Twin Towers, in addition to a history of schizophrenia and suicide attempts.

The lawsuit asserts that the defendants “knew or should have known that [Carrillo] was experiencing delusions and paranoia and was not taking his medication” during the month he spent at Men’s Central Jail prior to his death, based on his prior record of care while in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Conversely, the lawsuit asserts that Carrillo was transferred from a general population cell to a single-man cell within MCJ shortly before his demise, without any further oversight or surveillance.

The department had no immediate comment on the lawsuit, which alleges unlawful death and civil rights violation, according to a sheriff’s spokesperson.

Baldwin Park is a city that can be found in the central southern part of the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County, California, in the United States of America. The population was 72,176 at the time of the 2020 census, which is a decrease from the 10 years prior, when it was 75,390.
