The Jasper County police department has been able to identify the woman who was found bound and injured at a public boat dock. Their inquiry, on the other hand, has now spread into a number of counties in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina, and as a result, state police have been assigned to lead the investigation.
An incident that occurred on Wednesday, April 3, at approximately three o’clock in the afternoon, involved a white female who was discovered injured, unconscious, and with her hands tied.
The incident took place at Corner Lake Landing, which is a public boat landing that is located along the Coosawhatchie River. A number of law enforcement agencies, including the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services, and deputies from Hampton County, traveled to the location.
The police remained silent for several days, noting only that the woman had been transported to a neighboring hospital, where she remained alive but unconscious, and where detectives had not been able to positively identify her. Despite the fact that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office divulged on Monday that a female victim “was identified early on in this investigation,” they have decided not to publicize her identity at this time. According to the release made by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on April 8, “This information was not made public due to reasons that may have put the case in jeopardy.” Over the course of this investigation, the investigators have found a number of counties in the state of South Carolina.
Due to the fact that the investigation is going beyond the jurisdiction of Jasper County, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has requested that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) take over responsibility for the investigation. “The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work side by side with SLED until all of the individuals responsible for this crime are in custody,” according to the release that was issued.
SLED released its own press release on Monday afternoon, saying that the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had requested it, and that the agency had swiftly taken the lead in the investigation that encompassed numerous counties.
As stated in the press statement, “SLED’s investigation is active and ongoing,” and anybody who possesses information, including surveillance footage along South Carolina Highway, is encouraged to call the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division at 803-413-3626 or send an email to tips@sled.sc.gov.
According to both notices, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting a search for any footage of vehicles in the vicinity of Browning Gate Road, Heritage Road, Mill Pond Road, Possum Corner Road, and/or Corner Lake Road in the counties of Hampton and Jasper between the hours of one and three o’clock on April 3.Calling Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111, visiting their website at www.5541111.com, or using the P3 reporting app are all ways to get in touch with them. We appreciate any and all reports, regardless of how anonymous they may be.
