Dr. Julia “Julie” Leanne Wright, a beloved member of the Alma, Arkansas community, passed away on May 1, 2024, at the age of 52, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, and educator, Julie will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Julie was born on July 7, 1971, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Gerald Dean Smith and Reba Delores Gregory. She graduated from Alma High School in 1989 and went on to become a certified public accountant and a faculty member at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (UAFS).

Julie was a proud mother of two children, Emily and Jackson Wright, and a dedicated wife to her husband of 28 years, David Wright. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Alma and enjoyed reading, working with her students, and spending time with her family.

Julie’s love for her family was evident in everything she did. She was a proud Eagle Scout mom, a dance mom, and a baseball mom, always supporting her children in their endeavors. Her family was her greatest joy, and she will be deeply missed by her husband, children, mother, sister, brothers-in-law, nephews, and nieces.

The funeral service for Julie will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Alma, followed by interment at Dyer Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.

Julie’s legacy will live on through her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her work in education and her community. She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and dedication to those she loved and served.

Pallbearers for the funeral service will include Jackson Wright, Kevin Wright, Clayton Wright, Brian Wright, Dr. Jeffrey Wright, Jason Wright, and Judson Parker. Honorary pallbearers will include Tyson Shepherd, Matthew Crosswhite, and Aaron Milford.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Julie Wright Memorial Fund, which will support education and community initiatives in her memory. Arrangements are under the care of Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.
