Delvin Tarver, 18-year-old senior at Auburn High School, killed after shooting at Union Springs CVS parking lot

The Auburn community mourns the passing of Delvin Tarver, an 18-year-old senior at Auburn High School, who tragically lost his life over the weekend in a shooting incident at a Union Springs CVS parking lot following a prom party.

Tarver, set to graduate in just 17 days on May 23, was esteemed for his membership in the National Honor Society and his dedication as a football player, as indicated by social media posts.

Auburn High School is offering grief counseling services throughout the week to aid students and staff in dealing with this profound loss.

“It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the unexpected loss of a valued member of our Auburn High School community. Our hearts go out to the family and friends as they navigate this challenging period,” conveyed a spokesperson from Auburn City Schools.

According to Lt. Gary Lewis of the Union Springs Police Department, the shooting incident unfolded after the Bullock County High School prom on Friday night, when teenagers gathered in the CVS parking lot off Baskin Street around 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

Despite not attending the prom or an after-party, Tarver was present in the CVS parking lot when the gunfire erupted.

Investigators believe Tarver was shot while inside a small SUV and was subsequently transported to Baptist South by ambulance, where he tragically passed away from his injuries.

Fortunately, it seems no one else was harmed in the incident.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are still determining the motive behind the incident.

Although a person of interest has been identified in connection with the shooting, no arrests have been made at this time.

The Union Springs Police Department encourages anyone with relevant information to step forward and contact the police at 334-738-3131.

Alternatively, individuals can opt to provide information anonymously by reaching out to Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
