Obituary, Death David Francisco Rebelo-Garcia, 19, Charged with Capital Murder in Fatal Firearm Sale Shooting; Steven Thomas Gagne, 36, Killed in South Side Transaction Gone Wrong”

A tragic incident on the South Side of San Antonio has resulted in the death of 36-year-old Steven Thomas Gagne, who was fatally shot during a firearm transaction on March 30. The San Antonio Police have charged 19-year-old David Francisco Rebelo-Garcia with capital murder, along with a 16-year-old suspect, in connection with the deadly shooting.

According to the arrest report, Rebelo-Garcia and two other teenagers met with Gagne, who was selling a firearm, around 10:30 p.m. on March 30 off Chaucer Avenue near South Flores Street. The situation turned deadly when one of the suspects took the gun from Gagne, prompting him to draw a weapon. Another suspect then drew a gun and started shooting at Gagne, hitting him several times. The three suspects fled the scene, leaving Gagne lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds to the stomach.

Gagne was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The police detained three suspects, including Rebelo-Garcia, and discovered text and audio messages where the alleged shooter admitted to his friends that he had shot Gagne. The suspect later confessed to police that he and the other two suspects had planned to steal the firearm from Gagne during the meetup.

Detectives reviewed messages between Rebelo-Garcia and Gagne over social media, which revealed that Rebelo-Garcia had arranged to buy the firearm from Gagne. Additionally, they found messages from Rebelo-Garcia to an unknown person discussing the plan to steal the firearm from Gagne. The investigators stated that the messages made Rebelo-Garcia a party to capital murder, and if it weren’t for his messages, Gagne would not have arrived at the location where the firearm was stolen and he was shot.

The suspected shooter, who is 16 years old, has also been charged with capital murder. The status of the third suspect is currently unknown. The community is shaken by this senseless act of violence, and the police are working to ensure that justice is served.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of illegal firearm transactions and the importance of prioritizing safety and responsible gun ownership. As the investigation continues, the community comes together to mourn the loss of Steven Thomas Gagne and support his loved ones during this difficult time.

The capital murder charge against David Francisco Rebelo-Garcia and the 16-year-old suspect carries severe consequences, reflecting the gravity of their alleged crimes. The case serves as a warning to those who would engage in illegal and violent activities, and the police are committed to keeping the community safe from harm.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the community will be watching closely, seeking justice for the victim and his family. The memory of Steven Thomas Gagne will live on, and his tragic death will not be forgotten.
