On Saturday evening, at approximately 8:20 pm, officers with the Moses Lake Police Department (MLPD) responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the Motel 6 in Moses Lake. Upon arrival, the situation escalated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between a suspect and police. Tragically, an MLPD officer was struck by a bullet and sustained injuries.

The injured officer underwent surgery and is currently recovering. The suspect was also injured in the exchange and received treatment at Samaritan Hospital before being released. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.

The investigation into this officer-involved shooting is being handled by the Central Basin Investigative Team (CBIT), an independent team comprising detectives from agencies within Grant, Adams, and Kittitas Counties. In accordance with state law, no detectives from the Moses Lake Police Department will participate in the investigation to ensure impartiality and transparency.

CBIT is a multi-agency team established to investigate officer-involved shootings and other critical incidents. The team is commanded by Chief Deputy Gary Mansford with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, who will oversee the investigation into this incident.
