Zainab Mansoor Obituary, Student accused of killing girlfriend deemed fit to stand trial

Zainab Mansoor Obituary:

The former UC Santa Cruz student accused of killing his girlfriend at Seabright Beach in February 2024 has been declared fit to stand trial by the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office.

This decision was reached on Tuesday morning following the evaluation of two mental health assessments.

A doctor assigned to the case produced two reports confirming that the suspect was cognizant of his actions at the time of the alleged crime.

Samuel Brannigan Stone, aged 20, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder, which includes special enhancements for a serious felony violation and a violent felony allegation. Stone is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, 21-year-old UC Santa Cruz student Zainab Mansoor.

After Stone called 911 to report a homicide in which he was involved, Santa Cruz Police found Mansoor unconscious.

She was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Stone’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 2, 2024.
