The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who tragically lost her life in a shooting near McDonough Playground as 25-year-old Brittney Ussin.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, Ussin was shot on Monday evening in the 300 block of Ptolemy Street and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The incident is believed to have stemmed from a fight at the playground involving a group of women, as captured in cell phone footage provided by Ussin’s uncle, Michael Willis.
The video shows a physical altercation escalating, with one woman eventually brandishing a gun. Willis mentioned that his niece can be seen in the video using a substance against another woman, emphasizing that the fight was not random and highlighting the role of social media in perpetuating violence.
As of Wednesday morning, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been named in connection with Ussin’s tragic death.
