The incident occurred on March 31 at around 6 p.m. at the Walmart located on Rockford Street.
An 86-year-old woman named Bonnie Smith Hennings was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. She was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
The driver, Jerry Lee Speaks, came forward the following day and was subsequently charged with involuntary manslaughter and other offenses on Tuesday.
