Larry’s legacy lives on through the memories shared by friends and family, and the Tchula community will forever be grateful for the positive influence he had during his time among them.

The Tchula community mourns the loss of a beloved member, Larry Clanton, who passed away recently. Larry’s journey in Tchula began in 1964 when he joined the late James “Bubba” Cunningham. Over the years, Larry became a respected figure in the community, known for his hard work, dedication, and love for the land. As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, let us reflect on the legacy he leaves behind.

Larry Clanton’s arrival in the Tchula area marked the beginning of a lifelong connection with the land. In 1964, he started working under the guidance of the late James “Bubba” Cunningham, laying the foundation for a career that would span decades. Larry’s strong work ethic and passion for agriculture soon became evident as he dedicated himself to learning the ropes of farming and cattle raising.

After several years working alongside Bubba Cunningham, Larry Clanton decided to embark on his own farming journey. With the knowledge and skills acquired during his time under Bubba’s mentorship, Larry established himself as an independent farmer and cattle raiser. Beyond his agricultural pursuits, Larry Clanton was an avid deer hunter who found solace and joy in the great outdoors. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sylvia McClain Clanton, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. His son, Jerry “Skip” Wilson, and daughter-in-law Missy reside in Oxford, MS, along with his grandchildren Sadie Wilson of Nashville, TN, and Lucy Wilson of Oxford, MS. Additionally, Larry leaves behind a brother, Charles Clanton, and sister-in-law Karen of Kosciusko, MS.

In addition to his immediate family, Larry Clanton is remembered fondly by a vast network of nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity. His impact on the Tchula community extends beyond his agricultural achievements, as he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and a deep connection to the land.
