The Felsted School community mourns the loss of a distinguished alumnus, Old Felstedian Oliver Everett (b56-61), who passed away on December 22, 2023, at the age of 80. Oliver’s life was marked by a profound dedication to public service, highlighted by his role as Private Secretary to the Prince and Princess of Wales during the 1980s and his later esteemed position as Royal Librarian.

Oliver Everett’s Legacy at Felsted

Oliver’s connection with Felsted School remained steadfast throughout the years. In June of the same year he passed, he visited the school and took joy in learning about Felsted’s recent achievements in cricket and rugby.

His own contributions to the sports legacy of Felsted were significant, having been a part of the Cricket Colt XI and 1st XV Cricket teams. Moreover, he held the honor of being the captain of the 1st XV Rugby team, leaving an indelible mark on the school’s sporting history.

A Return to Felsted and Continued Connection

Oliver Everett continued to maintain strong ties with Felsted, demonstrating his commitment to the alma mater that played a crucial role in shaping his formative years. In 2014, he returned to present a Butler Lecture, sharing insights and experiences with the current generation of Felsted students. His engagement with the school was not merely a nostalgic journey but a testament to his ongoing interest in the development and achievements of Felsted students.

In 2019, Oliver hosted a special Old Felstedian event, providing an exclusive opportunity for private viewing of the ‘Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing’ exhibition at The Queen’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace. This gathering showcased Oliver’s dedication to fostering a sense of community among Old Felstedians and his desire to contribute to the cultural and intellectual enrichment of his fellow alumni.

Service to Royalty and Beyond

Oliver Everett’s life took an extraordinary trajectory, marked by his pivotal role as Private Secretary to the Prince and Princess of Wales during the 1980s.
