Joseph Matthew Hanh Cox obituary, death, 24, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Passes Away; Leaves Behind a Legacy of Kindness, Love, and Selfless Service

Joseph Matthew Hanh Cox, a 24-year-old native of Kingsport, Tennessee, tragically passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. His untimely death leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his selfless service and kindness.

_Early Life and Education_

Joseph was born and raised in Kingsport, where he graduated in 2019 from Sullivan North High School. Even as a young man, he exhibited a strong desire to serve others and lead by example.

_Military Service and Awards_

After high school, Joseph’s commitment to making a difference in the world led him to pursue a career in the military. He attended the Marion Military Institute and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where his passion for service was evident. Joseph went on to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard, completing a tour overseas in Bahrain. Throughout his service, he was awarded the Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, honors that reflect his dedication, discipline, and service to his country.

_Community Service and Volunteer Work_

In addition to his military service, Joseph was an active volunteer in every community he was part of. He served as a firefighter and EMT, putting his life on the line to protect others, whether responding to emergencies or working to keep his community safe.

_Personal Life and Family_

Joseph’s love for his family was one of the cornerstones of his life. He was a devoted son to Wayne and Beverly Cox and a beloved brother to his sister, Erika. His bond with his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Mann, and the rest of his extended family was a source of immense joy and support.

_Visitation, Funeral, and Graveside Services_

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lynn Garden Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Rick Meade and Pastor Anthony Gragg. The service will celebrate Joseph’s life and the many ways in which he touched the lives of those around him. A military graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, where Joseph will be honored with full military honors by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Joseph’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those whose lives he so profoundly impacted. His legacy of kindness, love, and selfless service will be cherished by his family, friends, and community for generations to come.
