Crawford Bryant’s Legacy Lives On: High School Soccer Team Wins Super-Sectional Championship in Tribute to Fallen Teammate

Tragedy struck just over two months ago when 15-year-old Crawford Bryant’s life was cut short in a car accident. However, his memory continues to inspire his community and teammates, who have rallied together in his honor. On Saturday, Columbia High School’s soccer team achieved a remarkable victory, winning the Super-Sectional Championship and securing their place in the state tournament.

Principal Brian Reeves praised the team’s resilience, saying, “They’ve had an extraordinary year. It started with a tragedy, but they’ve shown tremendous perseverance.” Despite Bryant’s physical absence, his legacy remains strong on the field.

His teammates pay tribute to him by wearing his number on their arms, and his jersey and cleats are placed near the bench.

The team’s ritual of bringing Bryant’s jersey onto the field after every game has been a powerful symbol of their unity and dedication.

Reeves described it as “unbelievable” and highlighted the team’s remarkable turnaround since Bryant’s passing. From being winless before the accident to remaining undefeated since, the team’s transformation is a testament to their strength and inspiration.

Coach Jamey Bridges has led the team with purpose and strength, and Reeves credited him for the team’s success. The sense of unity extends beyond the school, with surrounding communities coming together to support Bryant’s family and teammates.

As the team prepares for the state championship, every goal scored is dedicated to Bryant. They will head to the state tournament on Wednesday, November 6, with the first game in the final four taking place on Thursday, November 7. Crawford Bryant’s legacy will continue to live on through his teammates’ determination and spirit.
