A tragic incident occurred in east Spokane on Tuesday, resulting in the loss of a father’s life. The suspect, identified as Damian Eiffert, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The Spokane Police Department responded to a stabbing incident at the intersection of Thor Street and First Avenue, where they found the victim with fatal injuries.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed that Eiffert was the son of the deceased, establishing a tragic connection between the victim and the suspect. Law enforcement launched an investigation and issued an arrest warrant for Eiffert.
On Wednesday morning, Washington State Patrol officers encountered a vehicle that appeared to be disabled on Interstate 90 near Cheney. Upon running a check on the license plates, they discovered the car had been reported stolen and identified Eiffert as its sole occupant. During the encounter, Eiffert displayed uncooperative behavior, claiming to possess a firearm and reaching toward his waistband.
This prompted authorities to take immediate safety precautions, closing both directions of I-90 to ensure public safety. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, WSP, SWAT teams, Crisis Negotiations, the Behavioral Health Unit, and the Regional Air Support Unit.
Negotiators attempted to establish communication with Eiffert, encouraging his peaceful surrender. However, he remained uncooperative and made threats against law enforcement officers. Eiffert was seen exiting and re-entering the vehicle with various items in his hands, complicating the situation further.
Just after 9 a.m., he fled the vehicle on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter by law enforcement. Eiffert was taken into custody and is facing charges of second-degree murder. The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased and the official cause of death at a later time.
