Anitra Hollman, Tahj Booker Obituary, Death: Police Arrest Suspect in Birmingham Mass Shooting
A tragic mass shooting occurred in Birmingham’s Five Points South Entertainment District on September 21, 2024, resulting in the loss of four lives and leaving 17 others injured. The victims who lost their lives in the mass shooting were identified as 21-year-old Anitra Hollman, 27-year-old Tahj Booker, 27-year-old Carlos McCain, and 26-year-old Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr.
The suspect, 22-year-old Damien McDaniel from Fairfield, has been charged with capital murder and 17 counts of attempted murder related to the mass shooting. Additionally, McDaniel faces capital murder, murder, and attempted murder charges in two separate incidents. The mass shooting took place on the night of September 21, 2024, and garnered national attention due to the number of victims and the shocking nature of the attack.
Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond stated that the shooting was likely a targeted “hit” aimed at a specific individual, with many innocent bystanders unfortunately caught in the crossfire. The shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue South, around 11 p.m. on that Saturday night. In the aftermath of the shooting, police recovered over 100 shell casings from the scene, indicating the intensity of the gunfire.
While the investigation into the mass shooting continues, police have linked McDaniel to other violent crimes in the area. Just two days prior to the mass shooting, on September 19, Diontranet Brown was shot and killed at a bar in downtown Birmingham. Brown was believed to be an innocent bystander. McDaniel has been charged with murder in connection with Brown’s death.
The following day, on September 22, Jamarcus DeSean McIntyre was shot and killed in another incident, this time in the 700 block of 81st Place South. McDaniel faces capital murder charges as well as three counts of attempted murder in relation to McIntyre’s death.
Authorities believe McDaniel is not the only person responsible for McIntyre’s murder, and three other men have been charged in connection with the case.
