The Port Orange community is mourning the tragic loss of Mary Wagoner, a 54-year-old woman who died when a tree fell on her home during Hurricane Milton. According to the police incident report, Wagoner was asleep in her bedroom when the tree collapsed onto the roof. Her mother, Judith Jones, who lived with her on Spring Drive, shared these details with the police.

Judith Jones recounted that she and her daughter had gone to bed at around 11 p.m. the previous night. Sometime between 2 and 4 a.m., Jones heard a loud noise coming from Wagoner’s bedroom. However, it wasn’t until approximately 7:45 a.m., after she began preparing for the day, that she went to check on her daughter. Jones discovered that she couldn’t enter the bedroom due to the tree’s obstruction. She then sought assistance from a neighbor.

Despite rescue efforts, Wagoner was pronounced dead at the scene. Her tragic death is one of four fatalities reported in Volusia County as a result of Hurricane Milton. Another victim, a 79-year-old woman from Ormond Beach, also lost her life when a tree fell on her home. The other two deaths in the county were attributed to medical emergencies during the storm, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

The loss of life and damage caused by the storm has left the community grieving, with residents still coping with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton’s devastating impact. The storm has caused widespread destruction, including downed trees, power outages, and property damage. The community is coming together to support those affected by the storm and to mourn the loss of Mary Wagoner.

Wagoner’s family and friends are devastated by her sudden passing, and the community is rallying around them to offer support and condolences. A fund has been set up to help cover funeral expenses and support the family. The loss of Mary Wagoner is a tragedy that has left a void in the lives of those who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, and her legacy will serve as a reminder of the importance of cherishing every moment with those around us.
