Alexander Nelson, 62, Identified as Victim in May Awendaw Homicide; Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Investigating

Alexander Nelson, a 62-year-old man, has been identified as the victim in a May homicide in Awendaw, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. Nelson was found injured next to Highway 17 and was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina, where he succumbed to his wounds.

The autopsy revealed that Nelson suffered blunt force trauma on May 2, which was determined to be the cause of death. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has categorized the death as a homicide and is currently investigating the events surrounding the incident.

In a separate incident, Margaret Gillard, an 88-year-old pedestrian, was killed in a crash off Church Hill Road. The incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.

In another unrelated incident, a 20-year-old female student was assaulted while waiting for an Uber in downtown Charleston last month. According to a police report, the student was approached by a male who made unwanted verbal advances and then physically assaulted her.

The victim reported that she was standing on Coming Street around 12:36 a.m. on September 15 when the incident occurred. She alleged that the male grabbed her and shoved her against a wall, striking her head. The victim claimed to have passed out in an effort to discourage further violence, which caused the assailant to flee the scene.

Patrolmen from the College of Charleston Public Safety and the Charleston Police Department promptly responded to the scene to investigate the incident. The authorities are currently reviewing security footage and witness statements to identify the suspect.

The incidents have left the community in shock, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigations. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the Charleston Police Department are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the community is protected from harm.
