Margaret Mbitu Obituary, Death – Kenyan Man Extradited to US to Face Murder Charges in Connection with Girlfriend’s Death

Margaret Mbitu, a woman whose body was found with stab wounds in a parking area at Boston’s Logan Airport in November, has finally seen justice served as her boyfriend, Kevin Kang’ethe, has been extradited to the US to face murder charges.

Kang’ethe had been the target of a three-month international manhunt after fleeing the US to return to his home country of Kenya following Mbitu’s murder.

He was apprehended in Kenya in January but managed to escape from a holding cell after only one week in custody, causing embarrassment for the Kenyan police force.

However, in February, he was recaptured while hiding at a relative’s residence on the outskirts of Nairobi.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) announced that Kang’ethe departed Kenya on Sunday and is scheduled to face murder charges in a Boston court on Tuesday.

Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga had previously assured FBI Director Christopher Wray during discussions in Nairobi in June that his office was committed to ensuring a swift pursuit of justice in this case.

In connection with Kang’ethe’s escape, four police officers, two relatives, and a lawyer have been arrested.

The Kenyan police have faced further embarrassment after a suspected serial killer, Collins Jumaisi, accused of murdering and dismembering numerous women, escaped from another police station in Nairobi last month.

A significant manhunt was initiated after Jumaisi escaped alongside 12 Eritrean detainees on August 20, but he remains at large.

The extradition of Kang’ethe marks a significant step towards justice for Margaret Mbitu and her family, and the Kenyan police force will likely face increased scrutiny in the wake of these high-profile escape incidents.
