Death News – Belhaven Man Charged in Tragic Accident That Claimed Life of 7-Year-Old Son

A devastating single-car accident occurred on Saturday, August 24, in Belhaven, North Carolina, resulting in the tragic loss of a 7-year-old boy’s life.

The driver, identified as Pope, was traveling with his two sons, aged 10 and 7, in a 2005 Toyota 4Runner when the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Emergency responders pronounced the 7-year-old boy dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The 10-year-old son was seriously injured and transported to ECU Health in Greenville for medical treatment.

Pope, who was also taken to ECU Health, has been charged with multiple offenses related to the accident, including Driving While Impaired (DWI), Felony Death by Vehicle, and Felony Inflicting Serious Injury.

Following his arrest, Pope was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center on Sunday, August 25, and is being held on a $75,000 bond.

The accident has left the community in shock, with many mourning the loss of the young boy and expressing concern for the older son’s recovery.

The charges against Pope underscore the serious consequences of impaired driving, particularly when it leads to such devastating outcomes.
