Luke Welch obituary, death, a 26-year-old resident of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, leaving a profound sense of loss among his family, friends, and community.

Born on May 26, 1998, in Petrozavodsk, Russia, Luke’s life journey took a transformative turn when he participated in Camp Hope 2006, a program aimed at providing older children eligible for adoption with a glimpse into life in the United States.

During this time, Luke’s vibrant personality and boundless energy caught the attention of Jennifer and Eric Welch, who quickly formed a deep connection with him. This pivotal moment led to Luke’s adoption and his arrival in the United States on December 2, 2006.

Luke quickly adapted to his new life, excelling both academically and athletically at Woodward-Granger Schools. He graduated in 2017 with numerous accomplishments under his belt.

Following high school, Luke pursued a career in the tool and die industry, enrolling in a program at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). He spent seven years working as a machinist at Accumold in Ankeny, where he was highly respected for his contributions.

Luke’s passing has left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He is survived by his loving parents, Eric and Jennifer Welch, and his sister, Jozy (Ben) Murry.

His memory will also be cherished by his grandparents Carroll and Eileen McLuckie, grandmother Colleen Welch, and nephew Joshua Murry, as well as by his extended family.

A visitation to celebrate Luke’s life will be held on Thursday, August 15th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale. A funeral service will follow on Friday, August 16th, at 11:00 a.m., with a brief visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. before the service.

Luke’s life was one of remarkable achievements and cherished memories. From his beginnings in Russia to becoming a beloved member of the Urbandale community, his story is a testament to the power of love, family, and resilience.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a memorial fund established in Luke’s honor. This fund will support causes close to Luke’s heart and assist his family during this challenging time.
