William Wayne “Bill” Bany, Sr., 85, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 14, 1939, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Bill was the son of the late Harry M. and June B. (Cosper) Bany. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1957.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army from April 3, 1963, until his honorable discharge on April 2, 1965. His time in the military was marked by dedication and honor, qualities he carried with him throughout his life.
On July 20, 1963, Bill married Linda Kay Myers in Alexandria, Virginia. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared values. Bill worked in the Customer Service Department at ARO Corp. for 30 years, retiring on October 20, 1995. Following his retirement, he continued to contribute to his community by working at Gorny Winzeler for 10 years.
Bill was a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church, alongside his wife, Linda. His commitment to service extended beyond the church; he was an active member of Bryan VFW Post 2489 and served as a former President of the Bryan Lions Club, where he was honored with a Melvin Jones Award for his exemplary service.
Bill dedicated his time to volunteering at Bryan Hospital, where he served as President of the Hospital Auxiliary. He also mentored students at Bryan City Schools, imparting wisdom and guidance to the younger generation. His contributions to the community were both impactful and deeply appreciated.
Bill was a family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a supportive presence in his grandchildren’s lives, attending their activities and celebrating their achievements. In his free time, Bill enjoyed yardwork and cooking, finding joy in simple pleasures and everyday tasks.
