Robert Askins, a 56-year-old man from Spokane, Washington, and Jason Sullivan, a 50-year-old man from Basin, Montana, have been identified as the victims of a fatal head-on crash on I-90 near Three Forks on Wednesday, July 31. According to Sheriff Nick Rauser of Broadwater County, Askins was the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, which crashed into Sullivan’s vehicle.
Askins made a U-turn while traveling eastbound on I-90 and continued westbound in the eastbound lane, according to a witness who reported the incident at 7:19 a.m. Several other callers also reported a wrong-way driver on the interstate. Approximately four minutes later, dispatch received a call about a head-on crash at mile marker 272.
Both men were found dead at the scene, and two dogs were found in Askins’ vehicle. The dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment, where one had to be put down due to the severity of its injuries. The other dog survived and is currently being adopted.
