According to the preliminary investigation, Dylan E. Schiets, a 20-year-old driver from Oak Harbor, was operating a 2011 Nissan Frontier that was traveling southbound on Ohio 53. Schiets veered left of center and collided with a northbound 2018 Ford Fusion, driven by Lunsford, causing a catastrophic impact.
Following the collision, the Frontier came to a stop off the west side of the road, while the Fusion remained on Ohio 53. Lunsford sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas Schiets suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.
