Eric A. Brannock, a man whose life was defined by his passion for sports, his love for his community, and his dedication to his family, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was 64 years old. Born on August 7, 1959, in Eldorado, Eric spent his life making a positive impact on those around him, whether through his work as an insurance salesman, his decades-long career as a sports referee, or his unwavering support for his favorite teams.
Eric’s love for sports was evident in everything he did. He spent over four decades officiating basketball, football, and baseball games, earning the respect of players, coaches, and fellow referees alike. His dedication to the sport of basketball was particularly notable, serving as the Head of Officiating for the Eldorado Holiday Tournament since 1996 and being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011.
But Eric’s impact went far beyond the playing field. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend, always putting the needs of others before his own. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his support for them was unwavering. Whether attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, offering a listening ear to his siblings and friends, or simply being a rock for his wife, Betty, Eric was always there for those he loved.
Eric’s passions extended beyond sports, as well. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, and he loved nothing more than spending time outdoors, enjoying nature and the company of those around him. He was also a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals, always cheering them on with enthusiasm and dedication.
Eric is survived by his wife, Betty Brannock; their children; grandchildren; siblings; aunt; cousin; goddaughter; nieces; nephews; mother-in-law; sister-in-law; and brother-in-law. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, with Rev. Blake Clayton and Rev. Jeff Rush officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial at Wolf Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a scholarship fund established in Eric’s honor.
