Matthew Tobben, a 42-year-old resident of Sturgeon, Missouri, has tragically lost his life in a devastating boat accident on Bear Creek at Rangeline Street in Boone County. The incident occurred early Monday morning, leaving his family, friends, and community in shock and grief.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident took place at 4:17 a.m. when Matthew Tobben’s 2008 Zodiac FC420 was overwhelmed by high water. Tobben, a hero and first responder, had rescued two passengers, Paige J. Pace and Charlie Resonno, from fast-moving water along with another passenger, Derek K. Abbott. While heading back to the shore, the boat lost engine power and started drifting in the strong current.

The boat was flooded with water, causing all four individuals on board to be thrown from the vessel. Matthew Tobben was found dead a short distance from the boat, pronounced dead at the scene at 8:53 a.m. by Boone County Medical Examiner Stacey Huck. The other passengers sustained minor injuries and were released at the scene.
