Caeden Laffan Obituary – A firefighter-paramedic from Oakland tragically passed away early Thursday morning while swimming off the coast of Pacific Beach.
The incident occurred when the man became separated from his friends in the ocean near Crystal Pier around 2 a.m. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported that several hours later, the man’s body washed ashore on the north side of the pier while lifeguards and a Coast Guard helicopter were conducting a search.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Caeden Laffan by the Oakland Fire Department, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that he was caught in a rip current from which he was unable to escape.
Oakland Fire Chief Damon Covington expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their young colleague, describing Laffan as a dedicated member of the department with a promising future.
Chief Covington extended his condolences to the Laffan family and expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration of the San Diego Fire Department during this difficult time.
