Richard Miller Obituary, Death: Former Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County Passes Away at 77, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Affordable Housing and Dedication to Family Success

Richard Miller, a Goshen resident and former Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family. His death has left a profound impact on the community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Richard Miller was born on May 24, 1947, in Goshen to Raymond and Edna Miller. He married Kathy (Yoder) Miller on November 22, 1973, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and they spent over 40 years together. Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was the center of his life.

Throughout his career, Richard Miller was dedicated to building affordable housing and supporting families in need. He served as the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County from 2003 until his retirement, and his contributions to the organization were immense. He was instrumental in transforming the lives of many families, and his legacy will continue to impact the community for years to come.

Richard Miller was a highly respected developer and home builder, and he owned Richard Miller Construction. He was a member of the Home Builders Association and served as President of the Elkhart County Chapter for two terms. In 2012, Elkhart County named him the Builder of the Year, a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication to his craft.

Richard Miller was a man of strong faith and was a member of the Mennonite Church in Waterford. He was passionate about his community and served on several nonprofit boards, directing humanitarian organizations and making a positive impact on the lives of many.

Richard Miller’s obituary and burial arrangements have been announced, and the services will be held at Waterford Mennonite Church. Visiting hours will take place on Friday, June 28, from 4-7 pm, and Saturday, June 29, from 10-11 am. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.

Richard Miller is survived by his wife, Kathy (Yoder) Miller; their three children, Eric (Angela) Miller, Crandall (Jessie) Miller, and Gretchen (Chris) Kingsley; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Richard Miller will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the affordable housing he built for families in need. His family and friends will remember him for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to his community.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard Miller’s memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County or any other charity of your choice. The memorial service will be held at Waterford Mennonite Church, and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life.

Richard Miller’s passing is a tremendous loss to the community, but his impact on the lives of many will never be forgotten. His family and friends will continue to honor his legacy and strive to make a difference in the world, just as he did.
