Willie Mays, the legendary “Say Hey Kid” known for his exceptional talent, determination, and infectious enthusiasm, has passed away at the age of 93.

The news of his peaceful passing was announced jointly by his family and the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.

Mays, who held the title of baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer, will always be remembered for his iconic basket catch and his exhilarating sprints around the bases, often losing his cap in the process.

His remarkable over-the-shoulder catch during the 1954 World Series remains one of the most celebrated defensive plays in baseball history.

Throughout his impressive 22-season career, primarily with the New York/San Francisco Giants, Mays boasted a batting average of .302, hit 660 home runs, accumulated 3,283 hits, scored over 2,000 runs, and earned 12 Gold Gloves for his exceptional fielding skills.

In addition to being named Rookie of the Year in 1951, Mays was twice honored as the Most Valuable Player and consistently ranked in the top 10 for the MVP award on 10 other occasions. His contributions to the game of baseball will forever be cherished and his legacy as one of the sport’s greatest and most beloved players will endure.
