Alex Calderon Obituary – Last night, a motorcyclist lost his life in a collision with an SUV in Mesa on Friday night. Police were called to the scene at 9:50 p.m. after reports of an accident near Sycamore and Southern Avenues.
According to the 911 caller, the crash involved a Mazda SUV and a motorcycle, resulting in the motorcyclist sustaining severe injuries on the road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the motorcyclist, identified as 23-year-old Alex Calderon, trapped under the SUV. Calderon was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. He was the sole individual on the motorcycle.
The occupants of the Mazda, the driver, and the passenger suffered minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital following medical treatment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle was speeding and maneuvering between vehicles. The Mazda was waiting to make a left turn at a traffic light when the motorcycle collided with it, as per the police.
In accordance with procedures for fatal accidents, the Mazda driver underwent testing for impairment.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
