Sandra Sandy Schultz-Peters Obituary, – A woman was fatally struck by a police truck on a South Carolina beach, according to authorities.
The incident occurred when a Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling north in the Myrtle Beach area on Thursday afternoon, hitting the beachgoer who was facing east, as stated by Lance Cpl. Lena Butler in an audio announcement.
The injured individual was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center, where they succumbed to their injuries. The driver, the truck’s sole occupant, did not sustain any injuries, Butler confirmed.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office released a statement on Friday afternoon, identifying the deceased woman as Sandra “Sandy” Schultz-Peters, 66, from Myrtle Beach.
The Horry County Police Department reported on Friday that the incident at the Nash Street beach access involved a department vehicle, and the officer responsible has been placed on administrative leave. The highway patrol is conducting an investigation into the collision, with an internal inquiry also scheduled.
In a statement, the department expressed condolences for the tragic event and acknowledged the pain felt by the community. They assured that they are also seeking answers to the incident.
Witnesses at the scene described bystanders coming together to assist the victim, with Dennis Miller recounting efforts to lift the vehicle off her after she became trapped underneath.
