Khamya Ferrell, a 14-year-old girl from Suitland, Maryland, tragically lost her life after a bullet flew through the window of a home in District Heights, Prince George’s County police reported. The devastating incident occurred on May 31, leaving a community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life.
On that fateful afternoon, a single bullet pierced through a second-floor window, striking Khamya and a woman inside the home. A man outside was also shot in the same incident. Despite efforts to save her life, Khamya was pronounced dead five days later, on June 5. The man and woman survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting occurred on Atwood Street, with officers responding to the scene at approximately 1:50 p.m. The area was littered with at least 20 shell casings, a grim reminder of the violence that had unfolded. District Heights Vice Mayor Xander Harcourt and Barry Stanton, deputy chief administrative officer for public safety and homeland security, condemned the senseless act of violence.
Khamya’s senseless death has left a community reeling, with detectives working tirelessly to identify the perpetrator and their motives. Believed to be an unintended target, Khamya’s life was cut short in a blink of an eye, leaving behind grieving family and friends. A reward of up to $25,000 is offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible individual.
