Lucy Morgan Obituary –
A 6-year-old girl named Lucy Morgan from Stockholm, New Jersey, passed away this week due to head trauma caused by an errant badminton racquet shaft during a family vacation in Maine. The incident occurred on June 1 in Limerick, about 30 miles west of Portland, according to Maine State Police.
Lucy was playing badminton with her siblings in the front yard of a lake cottage when the tragic accident happened. Jesse Morgan, Lucy’s father, who is a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Newfoundland, New Jersey, shared the heartbreaking details of the accident in a blog post associated with the church. The family heard screams from the front yard while they were at the back of the cottage after finishing lunch.
Lucy was struck by a sharp piece of the racquet that broke during a downward swing, causing severe injury to her skull. Despite being still breathing, Lucy was unresponsive, and her parents sought help immediately.
The aluminum shaft of the badminton racquet had dislodged from the wooden handle, piercing through Lucy’s skull. She was first taken to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Sanford and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland by helicopter.
Jesse Morgan mentioned that Lucy suffered from hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, a condition caused by oxygen-depriving brain damage due to traumatic injury. By Wednesday, it became evident that Lucy would not recover.
Due to the severity of the swelling and brain injury, it was determined that she had experienced brain death. Lucy was declared dead on Wednesday morning. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation by Maine’s Office.
